Description

WHAT IF you could go back in time and change the course of history? WHAT IF the watershed moment you could change was the JFK assassination? 11/22/63, the date that Kennedy was shot - unless ...King takes his protagonist Jake Epping, a high school English teacher from Lisbon Falls, Maine, 2011, on a fascinating journey back to 1958 - from a world of mobile phones and iPods to a new world of Elvis and JFK, of Plymouth Fury cars and Lindy Hopping, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake's life - a life that transgresses all the normal rules of time. With extraordinary imaginative power, King weaves the social, political and popular culture of his baby-boom American generation into a devastating exercise in escalating suspense.

This is a book that had me excited to get back to it after a reading session. Since I was around when the fatal shooting occurred I was curious as to how the author would handle the historic references. Every historic event made me feel as I was reliving the 60's. Kudos on a job well done.

I'm reading this book now. Liked the Kindle sample and downloaded book as soon as the price dropped with paperback publication. So far it's a real page-turner (or should that be button-pusher?). Most who are 60+ years old will be fascinated by descriptions of life in 1959-1963, though certainly described through a 21st C lens.

I loved this book. Stephen King is the master of characters and bring plot lines together.

This is one of the worst King books I've read. The premise had me very excited, but the book was undone by the language--very worn and tired. It reads like it was written in a weekend.

Was VERY disappointed with this book. I thought it was a very good premise but it took too long to get to the assassination. When after more than 100 pages, we still hadn't gotten to Dallas in 1963, I gave up. Probably King's worst book!

i reckon "cell" was his worst book

one of my favourite reads of 2011. Loved the historical reference. It felt like I was really there. The concept of multiple timelines and destiny - how we are here to learn a lesson - very well portrayed!

loved the first few hundred pages, the concept really captivated me and the story line was great, towards the end something changed and it wasn't so interesting anymore (right about where he gets beaten up, ends up in the hospital, memory loss, etc) and the ending was kind of a downer too; it's nice that him and Sadie are reunited in a way though

Not a bad book. Doesn't touch some of his greats but nevertheless a fine book with many attributes. However Horror being his main genre this seems to be unlike King. If anyone is looking for something more expected from stephen king, perhaps Stephen Alexander's Book of Neophyte may help. As it were it feels as though there's a new master on the scene.

A brilliant book! King really delivers in terms of plot and intrigue - I couldn't put it down and was haunted by Jake and Sadie's ill-fated romance long after reading the last page. I found the whole concept of going back in time and trying to change a crucial event in history fascinating - who hasn't ever wondered what would happen if we could change one little event in our past, and how our life would be changed. King also really captures the atmosphere of the late 50's and early 60's, so well that you can almost taste, smell and feel the towns and people Jake encounters on his journey. The butterfly effect is well thought out and gives room for thought, and Jake's efforts in doing the right thing are endearing and make you want to keep reading to see what happens. I also loved King's writing style, which is alive and flowing well - this book will go into my list of favourite reads to revisit again one day. Loved it!

i enjoyed most of the book... but the insistance that they needed to know it was lee was a bit much.... why not kill him and see what happens, why have to be 100 percent positive about it. lovely romance novel though

I enjoyed this book, one of his more lighthearted, no great horrer or terror a story that holds you till the end to see what his ideas of the future would be.

Based on his body of work, it must be difficult for Stephen King to meet his readers’ expectations much less produce quality at the top of his game. But with 11/22/63 he’s done just that. It’s not exposing any secret to say this is a book... more
