Description

The long-awaited fifth volume in the hugely popular and highly acclaimed epic fantasy A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE The last of the Targaryons, Daenerys Stormborn, the Unburnt, has brought the young dragons in her care to their terrifying maturity. Now the war-torn landscape of the Seven Kingdoms is threatened by destruction as vast as in the violent past. Tyrion Lannister, a dwarf with half a nose and a scar from eye to chin, has slain his father and escaped the Red Keep in King's Landing to wage war from the Free Cities beyond the narrow sea. The last war fought with dragons was a cataclysm powerful enough to shatter the Valyrian peninsula into a smoking, demon-haunted ruin half drowned by the sea. A DANCE WITH DRAGONS brings to life dark magic, complex political intrigue and horrific bloodshed as events at the Wall and beyond the sea threaten the ancient land of Westeros.

I started out with ebooks for the first 4 of this series, then got book 5 on audio and the reader was terrible. 48 hrs of listening to someone who's voice I could not stand....but I have enjoyed the story. It gets a little wordy at times. It could definately be condensed some and not loose the story line.

Progressed a number of sub plots not covered in book one of "A Dance with Dragons", however, there were more cliff -hanger endings than at a kids Saturday morning matinee film show from the 50s. Unfortunately, there are still so many open endings only an early release of the next book in the series will stop you having to reread this book. Very complex.

There was more action among the main characters in this book 2 than the first. That said, some of the subplot characters in book one were not mentioned or progressed. With so many open major sub-plots I can hardly wait, roll on the next book.

At this stage I would like to know how many more books are left to complete the series. That was the problem with the Robert Jordan's " Wheel of Time" series. It became too complex with all the numerous sub plots and characters I gave up at book 10 after investing so many hours and only to find the author had died before the series ended! As good as this saga is I feel it needs to end soon.

Very good story and well written. Vibrant characters, real page turner.

However... It's very long, so.much going on. Could be a little more concise.

actually book 4 was so long Mr Martin cut it in half and mad it into book 4 & 5. this is a wonderful series and it would be great if it could keep its integrity throgh 8 or even 10 novels...

Finally, he comes out with the 5th book! George is back to his writing after the teaser of A Feast of Crows. Yes, I'm being nice in regards to his last book. With a Dance With Dragons, we see the world and characters we missed! I wonder if it will be another 5+ years until we see the next book! If you haven't read GRRM and his series A Song if Ice and Fire, I highly recommend that you buy the first book A Game Of Thrones today! It is one of the best books I have ever read.

i looooooove the books and i have to say the show isn't that bad. pretty good. but books still better :)

I have seen so many people reading it on the tube this week, I may give it a try.
