Alice Sebold

Biography

Alice Sebold was born in 1963 and grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs. In 1981 she attended Syracuse University, where she was raped, an event that had a profound impact not only her life but her writing. At Syracuse she studied writing under Tess Gallagher and Raymond Carver, then, after graduating from Syracuse in 1984, she briefly attended graduate school at the University of Houston before moving to Manhattan. She is the author of the bestseller The Lovely Bones, now a motion picture film, the memoir Lucky, and a second novel, The Almost Moon. She lives in California with her husband, Glen David Gold. In 2004, The Lovely Bones won the Richard and Judy Best Read Award (given by the British Book Awards).
