I just finished reading All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. I see why this book is such a classic. The description and detail is brilliant. I felt it grasped the terrifying aspects of warfare. I definately recommend this book!

The book is narrated by Paul Baumer who is a German soldier fighting the French on the Western Front during World War I. He had enlisted with many of his friends from school. They were taught by their teacher about the glory and honor... more

I have really resisted reading this, not being a fan of war books. Still, you are correct. Books are classics for a reason. There is obviously something worth reading, and I am missing it. I will place it on the TBR pile.

Im now reading All Quiet on the Western Front for my World War I class. So far it is an amazing novel. The graphics and descriptions are amazing but heart breaking. Has anyone else read this book?

Since this class I have also started reading a lot of World War I documents such as journals, diaries and poetry. If your into any of those I would really like to suggest Siegfried Sassoon. He wrote many poems about World War I and be prepared many are very graphic and know some people who... more

i think my personal favourites are Pat Barker's Regeneration trilogy (Regeneration, The Eye in the Door and The Ghost Road) which feature the WWI poets Wilfred Own and Siegfried Sassoon
