1.Who are your favorite authors?: They keep changing. But my perennials are JRR Tolkien and Stephen King.
2.Who has had a major influence on your writing?: King.
3.Name a book you never finished?: "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene. I really do plan to finish it some day.
4.What word or words do you always have trouble spelling?: I can't think of one.
5.What three adjectives best describe you?: Curious. Restless. Private.
6.Which of your characters would you want to be and why?: Jane Rizzoli. I'd like to be as bold, confident, and as sure of herself as she is.
7.Which author would you invite to dinner?: Christopher Hitchens. He doesn't shy away from controversy, and he'd make it a lively evening.
8.Where do you write?: At my desk, in my own house, overlooking the sea.
9.When do you write?: In the morning.
10.What makes you happy?: Writing "The End".
11.What do you most fear?: Something happening to my children.
12.What is your favorite vice?: The evening cocktail.
13.What is the quality you most like in yourself?: I don't have any mean streak that I'm aware of.
14.What are the qualities you most like in your friends?: Tolerance.
15.Would you be lying if you said your works were not autobiographical?: No. For the most part, I write about people who are far more daring and interesting than I could ever be.
16.What part of your personality do you detest?: I'm not really comfortable around people.
17.What is your favorite adjective?: Cool!

19.What book would you read three times?: The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I already have read it about half a dozen times.
20.To whom would you award the Nobel Prize for Literature and why?: Abraham Verghese, for his masterpiece "Cutting for Stone." The best novel ever written about the practice of medicine. Or to Barbara Kingsolver for "The Poisonwood Bible."
