When an African man is conscripted into the Allied Force’s army during World War Two, he confronts harsh circumstances but equally liberating possibilities amid the hostilities on the war front. I was sceptical starting this prize winner, however it surpassed my wildest dreams and surely is a well deserved winner of the African Booker.

This story says more in limited words than some whole novels. I thoroughly recommend it to everyone!
