Description

"Fans of TV's "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" should be in heaven" ("People") stepping into the world of forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan, star of Kathy Reichs's electrifyingly authentic bestsellers. Her life is devoted to justice -- for those she never even knew.

In the year since Temperance Brennan left behind a shaky marriage in NorthCarolina, work has often preempted her weekend plans to explore Quebec. When a female corpse is discovered meticulously dismembered and stashed in trash bags, Tempe detects an alarming pattern -- and she plunges into a harrowing search for a killer. But her investigation is about to place those closest to her -- her best friend and her own daughter -- in mortal danger....

At the moment I am the only member following Kathy Reichs, I hope to rectify that situation and bring her brilliant stories to a much wider audience, and gain her - deservedly - many more fans.

Both the books and the TV series are good but any similarity between the two is almost non-existent, judging by Temperance Brennan's personal life. Proof of this is never so obvious as in Kathy Reichs latest book "Mortal Remains" (aka Spider Bones). The plot isn't outstanding and the clipped, abrasive speech between characters may be intended to build tension but mostly annoys, particularly when Temperance is at her pious best. Or perhaps that's how real forensic anthropologists deal with life? I found this novel humourless and dry and written in TV-like snatches so it never quite engaged me. However, I know there are fans out there who enjoy this clinical approach. Reichs has a new book coming out August 2011 “Flash and Bones” so I hope Temperance has loosened up a bit.

I couldn't really get into this book....................I usually give a book a couple of chapters to draw me in, but gave this book at least 5 chapters and still found it a bit slow........................I will try another of her books later to see if it was just that book or if its her style of writing that puts me off..................But I love watching "Bones" on TV.

The story was good, but could have been told as a short. Reichs style is a little too rambling for my tastes. Too much print is expended on the main character dithering about stuff we've already read about, and far too much print is devoted to GPS-style directions which really have no bearing on the story. The characters were also, on the whole, unlikeable, and I found myself wondering why I was reading this travelog full of obnoxious or stupid people. The mystery was the only good part about the book, and the only reason I read through to the end. But I won't be picking up any more books in the series.
