Description

The most shocking secret in the history of mankind is about to be revealed...A murderer is on the loose on the streets of New York City: nicknamed the Doomsday Killer, he's claimed six victims in just two weeks, and the city is terrified. Even worse, the police are mystified: the victims have nothing in common, defying all profiling, and all that connects them is that each received a sick postcard in the mail before they died - a postcard that announced their date of death. In desperation, the FBI assigns the case to maverick agent Will Piper, once the most accomplished serial killing expert in the bureau's history, now on a dissolute spiral to retirement. Battling his own demons, Will is soon drawn back into a world he both loves and hates, determined to catch the killer whatever it takes. But his search takes him in a direction he could never have predicted, uncovering a shocking secret that has been closely guarded for centuries. A secret that once lay buried in an underground library beneath an 8th Century monastery, but which has now been unearthed - with deadly consequences. A select few defend the secret of the library with their lives - and as Will closes in on the truth, they are determined to stop him, at any cost...

A serial killer stalks the streets of New York. A strange child shows up at a monastery in 8th century Isle of Wight (England). A secret so profound that Churchill wanted no part of it, Truman took it on with great trepidation, and is now hidden in a U.S. government laboratory beneath the Nevada desert. How could these elements all be connected?

It would be difficult enough for a seasoned author to pull it off, but coming from a first-timer it's pretty astonishing. This is a story where the ideas fly as thick and fast as the bullets, and you will stay up half the night to see how it ends.

As impossible to guess the ending as it is to put down, this book creates a fully realised world with three dimensional characters, thought-provoking ideas and a secret that will blow you away. Trilogy completed by Book of the Dead and The Tenth Chamber, which I am looking forward to reading over the summer.

A new Author and his first book hit a winner in my opinion. Some critics panned it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is a bit fractured because it jumps from present day to 700 AD to fill out the story, but even those side trips are interesting.

"The Doomsday Killer", has claimed six deaths in just two weeks. the people of New York city are up in arms and the police are stumped. The victims appear to have nothing in common, and the only thing that appears to connect them is a postcard with a coffin drawn on it, and the date of their death. An FBI agent, Will Piper, a burned out drunk on the edge of retirement is tossed this puzzle.

There is a closely guarded secret about an underground library on the Isle of Wight that may hold secrets that will change the world.

Found this book a bit difficult to get into - the opening sections are very fragmented with no obvious connection. but it's worth making the effort - it is certainly based on a very thought provoking concept... what would happen if humans were imbued with the knowledge that God has?
