Description

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

After glowing accolades from Harryknuckles I finally dug into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I got through about a quarter of this book and had a nagging feeling it had a too familiar a tone and I was suspecting plagiarism, or copyright infringement. After I finished about a third of it I actually said to myself, “Self, I think I’ve read this before”! After digging through my shelves I discovered both “Män som hatar kvinnor “ and its English version "Men Who Hate Women", both b... more

I really enjoyed this book. It was believable and kept me hooked. It had a great twist at the end. I also saw the movie, by the way. The movie was very good as well.

"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"..... The Movie.

=========================

I was in a local Video Ezy store today renting some DVDs and saw advertisements for "The Millennium Trilogy: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" movie, it's released on DVD september 2nd 2010..

Make sure that you check your local stores because I'm sure it's available everywhere.

I am glad the U.K. and the Ausie's have a handle on it. I would think it could be somewhat traumatic to a young person.

Well actually Mimsy, I'm 28years old and have read this novel series, and now I'll probably wait for the movies instead.

I am currently reading "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" by Stieg Larsson. I have read the other two books leading up to this one, "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo", and "The Girl Who Played With Fire". They are truly great books, very intriguing and believable. Too bad Stieg Larsson didn't actually get the joy of seeing them in print, as he died after the manuscripts were delivered to the publisher.

All books take place in Sweden. I found them very hard to put them down, a good way (... more

I'm reading this book currently. A real page-turner. I agree with other peoples views that the plot does take a little time to get going but, wow, when it gets going it's a terrific read. Would recommend this book to others.

Read until midnight to finish The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! WOW! I loved this book, once the court/gaol sub-plot moved on and Henrik Vanger made an appearance. Then the compulsive storyline of the book took over. I'm debating whether to press straight on with book 2 or try something else in between. Advice?

jipsie commented:

Is it just me or is staying up till midnight reading not very late at all? I'm usually up until about 2 or 3am and if the books really good i can read till 5 or 6 am. Is this weird??

Nah, I can stay up reading until it's time for me to get in the shower for work. Nothing quite like an all nighter to set you up for an 8 hour shift.

Have just finished reading all 3 millennium books, WOW what a fantastic story. If you've just started to read Girl with Dragon Tattoo and are finding it slow, keep on going, I promise you it soon speeds up and you won't be able to put it down. My favourite book is The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest. I'm only sorry there wont be any more.

Just finished the book, I read other reviews saying it had a slow start. I didnot find this to be so and I found it quite gripping from the start. I agree that it is a pity this great author has died because I would have liked to be able to read more of his work. I give it a full five stars.

This book was very hard for me to get going on. I didn't see where it was headed in the beginning. The middle on, was definitely a page turner. My favorite parts were the scenes with Lisbeth Salandar, she is an awesome and strange character.

This was one of the best mysteries I have ever read, the book just flows so well, by the time you are done with it you do not know where time has gone. I had more trouble putting it down then reading it. The characters, the multiple story threads are all good, interesting and tied together well at the end of this book. If you like mysteries of any sort, read this book. Then when finished pick up The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Have to say I thought the second book was the weakest of the trilogy(certain parts stretched credibility somewhat). However still a great read and 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest' does not disappoint in any way

Just started reading this book. So far, I'm on page 53, and I'm not able to get into it. I've had this book sitting around for almost a month and I've only gotten this far, which is starting to discourage me because normally when I start reading something I get very into it right away and finish it within a couple of days. Does it just have a slow start, or is it just not my kind of book maybe?

Susan Picard commented:

stay with it...it gets better as you go; i am waiting to get the 3rd book before I read the 2nd, as I want to go right through them

This was a surprising book. I must have missed the fan fair associated with this book, but it was a page turner, I could not put down. The characters were bold and different and it was very strong and weaved in different directions until the end. Most intriguing book. I read the second one but did not find it as good, I wille eventually read the third.

This book was slow going at first, but once the differetn threads start weaving together, it's hard to put down. Takes a lot of twists and turns, a page turner right to the end. Will most likely read the other two books of the series.
