Description

Read this history-making serial novel -- from cliffhanger to cliffhanger -- in its entirety.

When it first appeared, one volume per month, Stephen King's "The Green Mile" was an unprecedented publishing triumph: all six volumes ended up on the "New York Times" bestseller list -- simultaneously -- and delighted millions of fans the world over.

Welcome to Cold Mountain Penitentiary, home to the Depression-worn men of E Block. Convicted killers all, each awaits his turn to walk the Green Mile, keeping a date with "Old Sparky," Cold Mountain's electric chair. Prison guard Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working the Mile. But he's never seen anyone like John Coffey, a man with the body of a giant and the mind of a child, condemned for a crime terrifying in its violence and shocking in its depravity. In this place of ultimate retribution, Edgecombe is about to discover the terrible, wondrous truth about Coffey, a truth that will challenge his most cherished beliefs...and yours.

This is such a sad but incredibly well written and beautiful book. Despite having seen the movie it still wrenches at your heart and brings tears. Such a gifted author who can make you see what he wants you to see. A great read.

A must read. If you have not seen the Movie.....please read the book first. The movie is fantastic! But you will get the most out of it if you read the series/ book first.

As well stated by spyder......

I read this book as it was intended by King.. as 6 seperate chapter books, one released every month for 6 months. His idea was to duplicate the cliffhanger movies of his childhood. And it worked like a charm. I remember WAITING, 3 more days.. 2 more days.. for the next "chapter." Excellent storyline, every one of us should be contemplating its true meaning.

I really enjoyed this book, it's one of my favourite Stephen King books, it really makes you feel like you're there with him and that is what I enjoyed about the book, If only prisons were like that nowadays.

I have the book set of the Green Mile. In it Paul Edgecombe re-tells the story of John Coffey, Eduard Delacroix and Mr Jingles et al in 6 parts. I am up to part 5 and cannot put it down. If you have seen the film then the book is well worth reading. Brilliant!!

It doesn't matter if I'm reading the book or watching the movie, I cry every time. This was a true masterpiece of King's to connect with the reader and show them a different 'world' where you question beliefs and justice. Loved it.

Im sure everyone agrees the genius that was King is no more, and this should be one of his many magnus opi.
