Description

"Long live the King" hailed "Entertainment Weekly" upon the publication of Stephen King's "On Writing." Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer's craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King's advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported near-fatal accident in 1999 -- and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. Brilliantly structured, friendly and inspiring, "On Writing" will empower and entertain everyone who reads it -- fans, writers, and anyone who loves a great story well told.

Half autobiography, half writing manual, this is a really good read, especially if you are writing or are interested in the craft of writing. I learned a lot, not just about the craft, but also I things I never knew about or suspected of Stephen King (he was a coke head! Who knew?!?) I highly recommend this book, even if you don't want to write and are just interested in a good read.

Yes, I agree but than Stephen King (in my opinion) is one of the most amazing, contemporary writers. I don't really care very much about the stories that he chooses to write about and I have not read very many of his books but every time I pick one I know I am conversing with a master. His writing skills are really superb. My favourite book about writing has been Paradise Piece by Piece by Molly Peacock. Having seen a few books that you have enjoyed I think you might like this one too. Check it out.

I don't like a lot of his stuff either, but "the Shining" scared the bejeepers out of me. "The Green Mile" and "The Body" (short story in a collection of stories called "Different Seasons") were most excellent.

Loved this one. A real no bull**** insight into the life and mind of a great writer who also happens to be a pretty down to earth person. Entertaining in it's own right but also valuable as a tool for aspiring writers.

This is a great book about the writing process, and how to go about writing well. I would love to use it in my classroom to teach writing, but alas, it is Stephen King and I think some of my Freshman parents might object. It's a good read and an excellent resource for writers.
