How wonderful to see David Malouf on the shortlist of the 13 finalists for the 2011 International Man Booker Prize. I thought I'd read most of his works until I looked at his author profile page. The judges are very candid in what they were looking for, genius being one of them and while they didn't expect a writer to display genius in all their works, there had to be at least one work that stood out. LeCarre having withdrawn I do hope Malouf gets a guernsey. There were some other stand outs, although I think Anne Tyler was an interesting choice. I like her books but wouldn't put them in the realm of some of the othe writers on the list.
