Description

A wild, zany - and very funny - romp as a motley crew of athletes save the London 2012 Olympics from the bizarre machinations of a crazed dictator. P G Wodehouse meets Tom Sharpe-with a dash of Spike Milligan! In this novel, set in Wales, the land of poets and sporting heroes, Rowan Jones, the up-and-coming Welsh poet, accidentally finds himself attracting a motley crew of disaffected athletes from all over the world to his eccentric farmhouse deep in the heart of Wales. From here they discover and brilliantly thwart the plans, and earn their place in Olympic history.

I'm currently reading Dreams of Gold by Jonathan Chamberlain - very funny (the question is where can we discuss funny books - P.G.Wodehouse, Spike Milligan, Douglas Adams and so on? Anyway, this is up there with the best - thoroughly enjoying it

certainly a category and a book club

I'm all for it. Perhaps we could include contemporary authors, too. The likes of Jasper Fforde, Terry Pratchett and Robert Rankin. Sometimes we all need a laugh!

Very funny novel which I think many young adults will enjoy as we come to the Olympics. It also touches on issues - so food for thought. It is also slightly surreal in its humour so I think this will also appeal to young adults.

I recommend this book both because it is topical and funny and also because it touches lightly on a number of issues relating to participation in the Games.

With the Olympics coming up you may want to consider this funny, quirkily English novel about a bunch of international athletes - all very memorable characters - foil a bizarre bomb plot to disrupt the London 2012 Olympics
