Absolutely agree. Character relationship development is often what hooks me into a book or a series and that was part of what disappointed me so much with this series. I found most of the characters pretty unlikeable as well, which didn't help. Ever tended to act like an idiot around Damen, and.. I'm not even sure what was appealing about Damen beyond his shiny car and good looks.
I'm having the same problem with Lauren Kate's Fallen series as well with the whole fated lovers thing. It just doesn't work for me, not in these two execution anyway.

Yes, I feel Ever's attraction to Damen was superficial, and couldn't understand his attraction to her either. I can't accept the explanation that their bond was based on past lives together. I need more substance than that.
Jude on the other hand was a far more interesting character whose actions showed how much he cared for Ever. There's truth in the cliche "don't tell me, show me."
Just once I'd like for the protagonist to choose the not-so-shiny hero over the wealthy, mysterious male model. Sadly, I've yet to come across an author brave enough to go there (especially in YA fiction).

OMG I feel EXACTLY the same way as you - I couldn't wait for it to be over, but I had to complete the journey. Jude was a much more dynamic character than Damen, who was, lets face it, a dead bore and a stick in the mud. Jude was definitely hard done by in this series. Although, I was quite happy he got a hair cut.
As far as the way the series was going, I think you got the best of what it was capable of - unless the author took the series on a complete 180. Not satisfying at all.
