I read this book and it is the best! Steven King is a fantastic author who I admire. This particular book has it's scary moments but it is more of a 'moral' book. It is about sticking together no matter what and doing what's right. For Steven King it practically has a happy ending . . .

One of the best books I've read, with the rarity of an equally good and scary movie adaptation. Steer clear if afraid of clowns.

Wow! I have just finished my first ever Stephen King novel and I loved it. I was worried I would be scared but in fact I found it amazingly engaging and spent the weekend reading the whole 1100 pages. He is a master at setting a scene so that you can see it and see it well. I will be reading him again.

I read this book as a child (I was a strange kid) and thought I would re-read it nearly 30 years later. It still has the power to scare the socks off me!

I am currently reading this book, and although it's taking me a long time I'm really enjoying it. I usually read King's books of which I have previously seen the movie adaptations, however I haven't seen the film and am reading IT with fresh eyes, or a fresh mind. I love that I don't know what's going to happen next or how it's going to end.

I guess this book can be seen as a companion piece to The Body - published in Different Seasons and filmed as 'Stand by Me'. Both are about a childhood summer, and a group of friends going through an experience that both bonds them together and, as it marks the point when they begin to leave childhood behind, forever separates them. The two stories share the same themes: the loss of childhood and the gaining of something else, the strength of friendship and promises, how children live in an enti... more

i began the Stand when it first came out, loved the first section then found that it got incredibly preachy and dull. i put it aside meaning to return to it and never did.

Really enjoyed this book. Was difficult to read in places, but that is down to King's writing style, not the content. I found the same with Carrie as well, it was a bit 'back and forth, past and present', so sometimes I felt like I was reading two different, yet linked, books. The twists and turns in this book are great, constantly keeping you thinking and wondering about what will happen next. It lets your imagination run wild with the descriptions of the scenery, and people's appearances being so vivid. I'm not a big fan of horror fiction, and didn't find the book scary as such, more intriguing and eerie. Still, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys King's writing style or horror fiction as it is well worth the read. SK xoxo

I'm listening to the audio book of one of my favourite King novels. The childhood friendships seen through the haze of memories of summers long gone are pitch perfect, and the horror is real and meaningful. And i can't help but picture Tim Curry's fantastic performance as Pennywise the dancing clown.
