Kevin Powers

KEVIN POWERS was born in Virginia and joined the army at the age of 17, later serving as a machine gunner in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq. Upon his honorable discharge he muddled through a series of jobs before takinga Bachelor's degree in English, graduating in 2008. Kevin is currently a Michener Fellow in Poetry at the University of Texas at Austin, where he will receive his M.F.A. in 2012. He also facilitates a poetry group for veterans, which has proven to him that language is capable of remarkable things.
