Description

MOCKINGJAY, the thrilling conclusion of THE HUNGER GAMES trilogy from #1 "New York Times" bestselling author Suzanne Collins.

Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has survived the Hunger Games twice. But now that she's made it out of the bloody arena alive, she's still not safe. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Who do they think should pay for the unrest? Katniss. And what's worse, President Snow has made it clear that no one else is safe either. Not Katniss's family, not her friends, not the people of District 12.

Powerful and haunting, this thrilling final installment of Suzanne Collins's groundbreaking The Hunger Games trilogy promises to be one of the most talked about books of the year.

While maybe not quite as compelling as the first two books, it's still excellently paced. I kept reading because I wanted to find out what happens next. I found a surprising amount of humor in this book as well, but it could just be that I tend to find humor in some rather inappropriate material at times. I did find myself caught up in the emotion of the book more than in the two previous books. The nook edition was formatted nicely and I had no problems getting it to load.

i would give this book an A+, but all of the books included very violent deaths. That was the only part that I didn't like.

I read all 3 book like 15 times each and I never get tired of them. The only wierd part is the ending. I wish she would have elaborated more on like what happened. I understand it though

Unfortunately you cannot read all books for free on our site, however we do have a lot of free material to read and there are a few different ways to find it. First you can look on the title profile page: if there is a Google preview sign click on this link which will take you to Google books page where you can read free parts of the book. You can also often find another button on the title page: this one says read free sample chapter, clicking on that will take you to a PDF file which has a free chapter authorized either by author or publisher. Finally you can also go under Preview Books tab on the main navigation bar and follow the link to read free sample chapters. This will take you to a list of titles that either have a complete book or sample chapter available for you to read. Happy reading!

By far the worst book in the series, lacks much of the charm from the first novel. Once again too much focus on Peeta versus Gale. I hate that there's now a "Team Peeta" and "Team Gale". I guess that's what I get for reading a young adult book.

weisce18 commented:

i hate the "team" stuff. they make it sound like a stupid love triangle. mockingjay was good, but it depressed me. its not that its not a good book, its just super depressing.

Shannon Baxley commented:

I so agree with the whole annoying "team" thing. This isn't twilight. I actually find there's a lot of adult topics in there with the social commentary stuff, but sadly it's wasted on most kids. I visited the hunger games page to rate it and got a headache after 2 minutes of the omg peeta is so hot, team gale, omg I love it, omg it's so cool, your cool if you read this, and your not a reader if you don't read this. Yes, because the hunger games far outshines literary classics and if you don't read it your a not a true reader (think I heard a literary critic say that once). Uggh...I hate it when I find a good YA novel because I know what's coming. Most of the point of the book is missed. I have to say though when I do see youngsters that read and critically think about a book and really READ it, it warms my heart and I say a little prayer because maybe not all is lost in the literary world.

I want to read IT SO BAD

Amelia68 rated this book

“Mockingjay” is the most gruesome book of the “Hunger Games” trilogy, describing the horrors of war and how people are forever changed by it. If you haven’t read it yet, do not read on now, as it is impossible to review this book without including some spoilers.

After surviving two rounds in the arena, Katniss must now fight her final and toughest battle, by taking on the leadership role in a world gone crazy by war and suffering. And true to real life, this novel does not mince words when it comes to describing the atrocities of war, nor does it give any false hopes. War changes people and robs them of their innocence forever. There is no happily-ever-after, and no glory in war. Good people die, and hope dies with it. It’s the reality of war, and I admire the author for not trying to glorify it.

My issues with this last instalment of the trilogy are with the way it is written, especially the last 1/4 of the book, in which the author tries to pack so much horror that the scenes take on a nightmarish quality, leaving the reader confused and somehow cheated. There are a lot of loose ends, and unexplained events. How did Prim suddenly end up being in front of Snow’s mansion? How did Peeta somehow sustain the same injuries as Katniss? In the rollercoaster ride of horror that forms the climax of the book, the reader is suddenly left out of the loop but instead is given a mere summary of events which destroy every assumption and belief the reader has formed so far.

I hated the ending. Not because a lot of my favourite characters were lost (which is after all the reality of war), but because the characters who did survive were annihilated in other ways, by being so fundamentally changed by circumstances that little of their original personality remained. Yes, people are changed by war, and their spirits can be crushed beyond repair. However, I have met holocaust survivors who have retained a joy for life that seems impossible when knowing of the horrors they have gone through. So I was somewhat confused as to the message the author wanted to convey. Yes, war is horrible. But if all hope is lost, and there is nothing left to live or fight for, what was the point of the story? For me, the triumph of the human spirit over tragedy and injustice is the one thing that makes everything worthwhile. Without that, we may as well give in to oppression, as the alternative is even worse and there is no hope for a better future. By losing the essential characteristics that made Katniss and Peeta heroes for me in the first two books (Peeta’s inherent goodness and Katniss’ feisty spirit), all that was left for me in the end was a feeling of despair and hopelessness.

All in all, I feel that this book could have been so much more by staying true to the personalities that were developed in the first two parts of the trilogy. However, the book sends a strong message regarding the horrors of war, which took courage to write and make reading it worthwhile – just don’t get too attached to any of the characters!

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Atlas, I have finished the trilogy already. I have been a fan of this series and I will always love it, no matter what. While I thought this book was different from its predecessors, I still loved it. Since most of you had read this series, again, I will just discuss few things about this book. But this is going to be a difficult one. Forgive me if my words are all over the place.

The plot was not what I expected, though Id still say that It was gripping, but not as fast-paced... more

The adults were in control for a lot of this book which gave it a different flavour, and I think you lost a lot of the impetus that made the first two books work so well. Also, it was quite dense packed with a lot of heavy stuff that Katniss had to deal with and in the end I felt it weighed the book down considerably. There were moments when Katniss stepped up and took control that you felt some of the magic from the earlier parts of the series and I really enjoyed those moments. This book did contain the one moment in the series that made me cry, and that was near the end with Buttercup, oddly enough. This was enjoyable and readable, but definitely not up to the standard of the previous two books, so somewhat disappointing in that respect

I love this book the best out of the series. Katniss triumphs over her new personal flaws created by the Hunger Games, and finds a way to live life even after all the traumatic events she went through. Honestly, the main character being a girl didn't affect the way I portrayed this at all. I could still put myself in almost every situation she went through. I am so glad My friend told me about this series. It made those hard indoor snowdays of my mountainous winter bearable. Thank you Suzanne Collins for being so amazing!

I thought the first 2 books in this series were amazing, with strong heroic characters you really cared about. I was disappointed with the last book Mockingjay. It was the same, can't-put-it-down kind of book, but the characters changed, and became depressing and weak. They were no longer the strong, amazing people that I fell in love with in the first 2 books. The always depressed Mockingjay got tiring by the end of the book, where all her life truama seemed a little too real-life. What happened to our heroine, our overcomer? I would have loved to have been reunited at the end with the characters we fell in love with. Would it have been so hard to have written another 100 pages that brought us back in love with our characters? It was worth reading; but, it isn't one I will reread.

I completely agree! I hate to say it but it was a complete let down. I mean sure an ending like that wouldn't have been realistic, but who cares! We've already bought into the fantasy of it anyway. I don't know what Collins' problem was, maybe she just got lazy.

Finished "Mockingjay". I was hoping for an ending with a bang, instead got an ending with a plop. Kinda like a cow pie hitting the ground. Why do women have such a facination with tragic, depressing stories? Katniss showed such promise in the first two books. I really cared and wanted to follow her to an exciting finish in book three and all I got was 398 pages of whining, teen angst as she bitched and cried her way to a life of grim mediocrety.

agperez rated this book

I was disappointed at the quality of this book. While Collins did a phenomenal job with the first two books of the series, she failed to fully develop the characters or the story line in this final book. I feel cheated. Katniss digresses as an individual; she is no longer the strong heroine we met in the first books. I won't even mention how I feel about Peeta, Gale, and Finnick so as to not reveal too much information, but truly, I'm praying for a rewrite despite knowing it won't happen.

I really love the Hunger games trilogy and all the characters. Suzanne Collins is a genius. I find Mockingjay was not as good as the first two books, though. I found that some points were overly detailed while others were rushed. I also didn't like that a lot of new characters were being introduced and then ignored until they were killed off. I really did like the story line, though, and would recommend it to someone not faint of heart.

Just finished Mockingjay, the third part of The Hunger Games Trilogy. I was really impressed by the first book, but the next two were so depressing! Almost every page mentioned death or suicide, etc. But the worst part is that, although a lot of good characters are dying, I couldn't put the books down. Almost every chapter had me put the book down and think, "what the hell", before picking it up and obsessively gluing myself to it, i do recommend the books, but if your a very emotional person, y... more
