Decided to re- read some of the classics. Just started The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene and am enjoying it. Loved Travels with my Aunt.

I like his style... Read "Travels With My Aunt', "The Honorary Consul', "The Tenth Man", "The Comedians" and "Monsignor Quixote"... All were positive experiences, deep and entertaining at the same time.

A lot of people tell me I should read Stephen King over the holiday season. I've never read any of his books but people say I'll want to read them all once I start. Anyone got any suggestions on where to start? Should I start with his latest?

An article I was reading called V.C. Andrews 'Flowers In The Attic' a guilty pleasure. It got me to thinking about when I had read the book.

OK will I admit that I LOVED the book. I even went on to read others in the series until I just couldn't take the incest any more. I am just wondering how many of you have read any of V. C. Andrews and do you also feel guilty about enjoying these books.

When I read them I was a teenager and there was no getting embarrased then. But,after V.C could no longer write the books they did become cheesy, but,I still read them until 15 years ago .I never get embarrassed about what I read ,and I was really picked on as a young adult for reading true crime.I would always respond with "I bet you sit in front of the TV and watch Law and Order and other police shows".That would usually shut them up.LOLOLOL

Can anyone tell me what exactly the WriteOnCon competition is looking for? Are they asking for a 500-word piece of fiction, a 500 word excerpt from a novel you've started, or a 500-word synopsis (or "pitch") of a novel you are working on?

Thanks,

-Ryan

Such a great book!! Very intresting, never insults the reader, maybe more of a boys book, but i love te honesty of it. Also how believable the, setting, language, characters are. I would recommmend to people that love to be taken on an adventure!

Happy Reading!!

REALLY disappointed in this book right now. I was looking so forward to reading it but I am literally having to force myself to pick it back up to make progress. Would not recommend this book.

I'm pro-Poisonwood, and the Congo is a particularly fascinating country to read about . The politics of the novel (i.e. about independence from colonial rule) are not overbearing and well integrated for most of the book, but then after they leave the jungle and head for the concrete jungle, it gets a bit preachy. The end feels tacked on and the plot of the novel could have sufficed without it. Very engaging, otherwise.

I just finished reading Water for Elephants and I couldn't put it down, it was wonderful. The author does a wonderful job of describing the ongoings of this depression era travelling circus. I highly recommend it.
