Description

Set in a small town in the wake of a horrific school shooting, Nineteen Minutes features the return of two beloved Picoult characters - Jordan McAfee, the lawyer from The Pact and Salem Falls, who once again finds himself representing a boy who desperately needs someone on his side; and Patrick Ducharme, the intrepid detective introduced in Perfect Match, whose best witness is the daughter of the superior court judge assigned to the case. As the story unfolds, layer after layer is peeled back to ask some hard-hitting questions about the nature of justice, the balance of power and what it means to be different.

The way picoult is able to switch between characters without causing confusion shows her talent as a great writer although the subject of the book may not be new it covered a lot of human emotions and failings. Gets one thinking.

I know Picoult is a favorite of many, many people, as exhibited by her success, but I find her too wordy. I think that economy of words is a very special accomplishment among writers. What do you think?

I agree with some of her novels but I enjoyed this one, made me think about my boys.

I enjoyed this book. Picoult always has a moral in her stories, whether you agree or not. Admittedly she has relied quite heavily on news stories and incidents that have happened but I don't think that takes away the depth of her writing.

I was unimpressed with this book, and it has turned me against Jodi Picolet as an author. Filled with lazy writing, the books is based on events we've all read about in the news. Even the back stories were predictable, and the characters were shallow and not very compelling. Light-hearted reading if you have nothing better to read or do. I very much dislike books that make me feel like I have wasted my time. ;-(
