Our Philosophy

TheReadingRoom.com aims to provide a world in which all readers can enjoy the variety of books on offer to them. We embrace the fact that not all readers are the same. Some of our members only read literary fiction, others love romance. Being an avid reader doesn't necessarily mean you want to join a community where the only thing you have in common is your love of reading. Even when you do have a genre in common with other readers, you might like very different writers. So connecting with like-minded readers isn't just about liking the same authors - it's also about discovering new writers, seeing what's new and getting both the community view and that of respected reviewers.

We are local and independent but also global and social. We provide the ability to browse and to talk about what you would like to read.

The Reading Room.com aims to provide readers with a trusted community in which you can access good book recommendations, read the latest book reviews from respected sources such as The New York Times, and discover new writers, latest releases and best sellers.

We're not the biggest kid on the block and we're not perfect but we are constantly improving. We want our site to be a life log of your reading, where you can manage your bookshelf, participate in book clubs, preview sample chapters, read respected book reviews, access all the latest bestsellers and award winners, view author interviews, and buy books through a range of retailers. Most importantly, we want it to be a place where you can be yourself.

Our philosophy is never to judge a book by its cover. Or to judge people by what they read. So when you see members on the site reading books that you wouldn't read, respect that they are reading what they enjoy and encourage them to discover new writers, rather than diminish their efforts by dismissing their choices.

The Reading Room.com supports Room To Read, the charity started by John Wood to foster literacy among young children in developing countries and in particular to encourage the education of young girls.
