Description

On the cusp of the French Revolution, a young, ambitious engineer of humble origins is summoned to Versailles for a royal commission - to clear the overflowing cemetery of Les Innocents in the heart of Paris. Convincing himself it is for the greater good and a way of clearing the burden of history, Jean-Baptiste Barratte sets about his unwelcome task. What he doesn't foresee are the dramas, violence and calamities it triggers, or that it will bring an unusual woman into his life. By the time the last bone has been removed, the transformation of Les Innocents has irrevocably changed him and his future.

Finished Pure over the weekend. I really enjoyed the characters and the discussions of the church cemetery. It's an easy read, it doesn't blow you away but it was enjoyable enough. I have now purchased 'Casanova' by the same author because I liked how easy his work was to read.

I am about to start reading this for my reading group. I love history, particularly early modern and therefore I am looking forward to this read. I hope it is quite a quick read though because I am trying to also read 'The Shadow of the Wind' this month before going to Barcelona. Has anyone read 'Pure'? Any comments?
