i'm new to your group but if you're still interested in suggestions I love Barbara Vine. recently finished Grasshopper not exactly crime, I guess, but good thriller. Sue Grafton's alphabet series are a good and easy read and Patricia Cornwell's Scarpetta series.

I am nearly at the end of the last book. I didn't enjoy the first book, it too me nearly 2 weeks to finish. Wasn't sure whether I wanted to read the second one, but when I did found it much better. I think the last book is even better.
It definitely is a shame that there will be no more books by Larsson.

This is a fantastic book, I can see why it was shortlisted for crime and literary awards. Gripping and exciting, but also a deep and important book.

If you like Patterson then Andrew Gross is a definate must. Obviously his collaborations with Patterson are great but his own stuff is brilliant too.

OK, so I couldn't make up my mind which book to read over Easter so I over suggested. Sorry, about that. I'll be more decisive in future and make ti easier. I really like the suggestions so maybe we can see who can read them all first!

Kim here is another good series of books I'm waiting for the third to come out in paperback. This one above is the second in the trilogy best to read Girl with a Dragon Tattoo first.

Thanks Patrick, I've read all three and thought they were terrific. Do you know any other Scandinavian crime writers? Its nice to have a change of scenery don't you think?

Henning Mankell's Wallender books, also Swedish, are very good. And i can highly recomend Peter Hoeg's "Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow".

I read Smila's Sense of Snow. I have to admit, I never even dreamed there were so many kinds of ice. I was born in the desert of the western US and haven't seen much ice, unless it is in my diet coke glass. Since reading it have actually stopped and looked at, felt, poked at the snow when we have gone skiing, but I just don't get all the subtle nuances that she does.
I have had a severely limited sample to work with though.
I liked the story, I thought it a bit rough in places, but a very worthy read. I also liked the historical information about Greenland, things I had never learned in school.

i have just finished the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and have ordered the other two books in the trilogy. If they are as good as the first book then I am going to really enjoy the other two

Enjoyed this at least as much as the first. I find Larsson's style mesmerising; at first it can sound well, journalistic, with lots of detail but very matter-of-fact, but it is this very style that immerses you completely.
***SPOILER****
i did find it slightly unbelievable how Lisbeth falls into the trap toward the end; even with the circumstances involved, she has always been portrayed as careful to the point of anal retentiveness (indeed, Blomqvist thinks she's probably autistic), and she does seem to walk right into it.

I think this is the best of the trilogy, unputdownable, exciting, and best of all gives the reader a better understanding of the character of Lisbeth Salander. Read all 3 but I feel the second was the best one.

Thoroughly enjoyed this series. the author has a great art of describing the scene to draw the reader in . His characters are very strong unusual, interesting. He takes one to seedy parts of life and paints a very clear picture making it interesting . He draws out the background of his characters that leads to the psychological makeup of the character. He is sadly missed.

I have read the trilogy what a great series of books. Sham Stieg had to die so young we'll never hear any more of the girl with the dragon tattoo.

There is still an almost finished fourth book on his laptop, now apparently in the hands of his life partner who is apparently not entitled to his Estate because defacto relationships, even when they are 20 years old, are not recognised in Sweden!

This one is even better than the GIRL WITH DRAGON TATTOO. Brilliantly written.
