Description

Spanning the 20th century, the story of Roses takes place in a small East Texas town against the backdrop of the powerful timber and cotton industries, industries controlled by the scions of the town's founding families. Cotton tycoon Mary Toliver and timber magnate Percy Warwick should have married but unwisely did not, and now must deal with the deceit, secrets, and tragedies of their choice and the loss of what might have been--not just for themselves but for their children, and children's children. With expert, unabashed, big-canvas storytelling, Roses covers a hundred years, three generations of Texans and the explosive combination of passion for work and longing for love.

I just finished reading Roses by Leila Meacham. I have been glued to this book for the last 3 days and now I am so sad it is over. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

I've never read the book but I would give it at least one more try and then if you still can't stay with it after that, at least you know you gave it a good try...If you can't get into it after trying this time, just put it to the side for a while, then try again maybe in a couple months or so...Or, if you dont have anything else to read at the time and thats the only book sitting around at the time..Ive been known to do that a few times lol..

I would definitely give it another try, I loved the book and yes the print is small and many pages but I was actually a little sad when it came to an end. :)

I'm only a little of the way through and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like it. The Gone With the Wind reference and the unnecessary use of wording has made me doubt the four stars People magazine gave it. The whole "i'm too proud to love you" mantra is too much, especially a few chapters in. I feel I will eventually have to pick it up-we'll see . . .
