Stefan Mani

Biography

Stefán Máni grew up in Ólafsvík, a small fishing village on the west coast of Iceland. He gave up school very early and became a fisherman. His youth was made up of work, hard life at sea, alcohol and troubles. It was in one of these dark and desperate moments, when he lost his job and realised that all his friends were imprisoned, that he eventually started writing stories. Sixteen years and eight books later, he wrote Skipið (The Ship), which won the 2007 Drop of Blood prize for the best Icelandic crime novel and has been translated into several languages.
