Description

My Heart Is Afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky."Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams."Every few decades a book is published that changes the lives of its readers forever. "The Alchemist" is such a book. With over a million and a half copies sold around the world, "The Alchemist" has already established itself as a modern classic, universally admired. Paulo Coelho's charming fable, now available in English for the first time, will enchant and inspire an even wider audience of readers for generations to come."The Alchemist" is the magical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the markets of Tangiers and across the Egyptian desert to a fateful encounter with the alchemist. The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the way teaches us, as only a few stories have done, about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, above all, following our dreams.

"The Alchemist" is a must read if you are looking for a life changing experience. It teaches us that life is not serendipitous and that each step in our journey we'll find gems of wisdom. Follow your dreams and live on purpose; you'll only discover your true self. This book left me staring at the ceiling thinking of the characters and the twist and turns took me on an exciting journey. I was thrilled and eager to finish this book and sadden when it was over. It's like delighting yourself with a piece of cake and when you've eaten the last bite you wished for another.

You either love Paul Coelho or you don't. His writing is closer to poetry than actual fiction. And it is always highly symbolic. Definitely a must read! This one however is not my favorite Coelho: I prefer it when he is a little less symbolic and a little closer to real life...

I Really Like This Book And It's One Of The Best Book That I Have Ever Read. The Introduction Alone Got Me Interested And I Have Read The Introduction Over And Over Again. Normally I Am Only Interested In Books Written By African American Authors But This Book Is Just Superb And It Got Me Interested In All Types Of Authors

I can see why this book is popular. It is 'inspirational' and 'spiritual' and I can, kind of, see how it might touch people especially if they're looking for that kind of inspiration and of that mindset.

To be absolutely fair, I do not have a spiritual bone in my body. I think there is more inspiration and hope, joy and affirmation to be found in a single page of Carl Sagan than in a whole 'alternative' bookshop. I found this book to be both plodding and vapid - the latter probably part of the reason that, along with most 'spiritual' guff people can happily apply it to themselves.
