I loved this book!! Only thing I don't like too much is you kind of get lost in the descriptions..

I am halfway through this book. I am finding it a little slow- but as it is the first of a series i am guessing it is necessary . There is an awful lot of page long descriptions of things which fortunately i can cope with. I am hoping things will move on a little more soon though!

This is one of my favorite books of all time! I admit that parts of it are a little slow and sometimes the descriptions are a little long-winded, but the characters and the storyline are amazing. I have read all 5 books a couple of times and the first 4 books (as they have been out longer) at least half a dozen times over the years and I have just finished the Shelters of Stone again. I can hardly wait for the last book to come out next week!

i absolutely loved this book, it was hard to get into at first but i kept reading and once you get into it you can't stop reading.. i'm on Valley of the horses and it is so far really good too! i love Ayla she is such an amazing individual, definition of a couragous woman. but i still can't believe she left her son, that's heartbreaking.

This book was sensational. I read it a long time ago and have not forgotten any of it. The story was set during the caveman era...Ayla is the main character, and the Author protarys her as having specials qualities...starting out a small child, losing her parents and being raised by a Caveman Clan. Interesting information about that era. My insight tells me that this Author did a lot of researching and put the story together with so many details of how the cavemen clans lived and survived during that time.Reading this book was enjoying and imspiraling....This is the first book of Jean M Auel series of Ayla and her people she was brought up by...Ayla grows up and Jean Auel keeps writting.....

This is an author who's really studied up on their material. The vivid and colourful descriptions and detail in all books in the series are phenomonal! It gives a real insight into how our ancestors must have lived with a real sense of imagination. Every page paints a picture and as a regular hillwalker, I could almost feel the clean fresh air and mountain views!
