The Desert Sheikh's Captive Wife

Has anyone else noticed a return of the 'jerk hero'? Years ago, it seemed the hero in romances were often rude, arrogant, treated the woman like crap, and were just ick (the old Harlequin romance books with the white cover comes to mind). At the end, he would declare his love, make a half-baked excuse for his behavior and the woman would swoon in his arms. I hated those stories and thought they were horrible for a young girl to read.
