This book will always have a special place in my heart. My father would read it to me when I was younger, and now he has passed on it means even more to me. I have two copies, a new one, which I read to my niece (like me, she devours books) and an old, tatty copy, the one my father read to me. This book is a delight for adults and children, and the characters are fun and captivating. A much lighter read for Lord of the Rings fans, you'll find yourself cheering Bilbo as he triumphs over trolls and dragons, share his frustrations over the tiresome dwarves and feel his pain as he is bumped about in a barrel. It's a classic for a reason, and will always invoke a comfortable fondness from me

I remember reading it before LOTR and still like it much better. For me, it's a more accessible story.

hey guys! even though I havent finished it yet the hobbit is a great read. I had previously tried to read lord of the rings but found it too much to take in im glad I picked up the hobbit to introduce me slowly to Tolkein so I can appreciate the series so much more! What does everyone else think?

if you like tolkien you should try c.s.lewis' chronicles of narnia or terry brooks' shannara series or terry goodkind's sword of truth books

hi jazmin the hobbit was a very cute story of adventure that I would recommend it to be read befor LOTR books, even though it doesnt matter if u dont. It just ties in nicley with things that are said or events that happen in LOTR books that make u go oww! thats why that happened!

hi hellraiser ive already read the first four books in the chronicles of narnia series they are pretty good, so im thinking of getting the last three read after the LOTRs are done!

Ah, the book that started it all, kicking off the charming tale of the little hobbit who is swept off into an adventure of trolls, giant spiders, dragons and elves, and finding a golden ring that will shape the future for his nephew, and the world. This is also probably the book that began my love affair with reading - hearing it on Jackanory and being read it at school, I read at myself as soon as I was able and part of me has remained in Middle Earth.

The LOTR movies are amazing - if they weren't made I probably would never have read the books.

Amy-Laura that's like me with the Jurassic Park series, so I guess some movie adaptations can work.

I have all the LOTR films...... My dad loves them even as he would with a lot action and war stuff.

Great story! It's a great adventure. Disney used to play this cartoon-movie all the time and I've watched it here and there. It's the first time I've read it and I want to add it to my library!! It's a real adventure and, for some reason-I can't put my finger on it, I love the way it's written. I love how the author tells Bilbo's story. Great read for anyone!
