Description

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading 'soul' who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

OMG!! I absolutely loved this book!! I was never going to read it because everyone had been telling me that it was really bad but I had a friend who said it was amazing. So that changed my mind in reading it and trust me, I am soooo glad that I now own it as well!!

I also heard that there were going to be two more books to this book. They were called The Soul and The Seeker. Does anyone know if this is true or not?? Because if it is, please let me know :)

Thanks

Also this is a great book that everyone should read!!

I've never read the book but I really have wanted to for a long time now. I've been trying to buy a copy or get it at the library but my library doesn't have it and every time I'm at a book store I don't have the extra money.

I am happy to hear that it is good, just as I suspected, and I really want to read it.

let me know if there really is going to be a sequel and does anyone know when the movie is coming out?

It is my favorite book ever! I was thinking it would be boring. WRONG! I couldn't go to sleep until I some chapters flew by... and couldn't go to sleep, my eyes hurting clock showing 6 am....... It is genius! We find fiction, but striking reality as well. Describing the humans as they are, capable of a wide range of feelings, some violent, some soft and caring... one part I liked when Wanda explained that they don't need to pay for things as their "policy" is that they all work for the goods therefore they all share them equally. If only it would be like that in real life, if only we all could be fair; that would save our world from wars, discrimination, crime, theft, orphans and so on... maybe I'm too naif, or just a dreamer, like Stephenie. I loved it! If you read it, well done! If not, you don't know what you're missing! Get it! :)

I read this purely on the back of the Twilight series (which I loved) and was expecting to be disappointed. A very different book to the ones that came before but I still found myself totally immersed in the characters because of the way it was paced. Because Meyer didn't try to make her leading characters extensions of Bella and Edward it almost felt like a different author had written it. I very much enjoyed the story and would say to anyone who is unsure about whether or not to try it to definitely give it a go.

I read The Host to see if Stephenie Meyers could write something more adult than the "Twilight" series. I was totally immersed by the end of the first chapter. I have never cried so much over one book in all my 53 years! What I have told anyone willing to listen is that I can see this scenario coming about. As far as I am concerned. it is one of the most realistic alien invasion books ever put into print that is actually a work of fiction. I think Meyers would have a difficult time coming up with a sequel that would be it's equal; but if she does, I'll be one of the first in line to purchase it!

That's exactly what I did, not really a Twilight fan, but love the Host. I think Twilight has just been overblown and dragged out. Plus the protagonist is so weak, I find her irritating. But Melanie and Wanda are both likeable, intriguing characters and I'd like to see more of them. Or possible something set in the same circumstances with new characters

When I first bought this book I had no idea what to expect and I began reading it on the train journey home from London, at first I couldn't concentrate, I couldn't wrap my head around the concept of all these different Planets and how it could possibly work and as confusion took over me... I couldn't enjoy reading it at all.

Then my idea totally changed. I began reading it again and understanding the Character of Wanderer and how torn she must feel and I actually felt like I was walking in her shoes. Of course that would be impossible. I was unbelievably attached to the book from the moment Wanderer and Melanie set out to find their true love, I couldn't put the book down at all as I became involved in the emotions and actually pitied the character as she watched her true love look down at her with such hate. I have never been so attached to the feelings in a book before The Host and I don't think I ever will be able to other than the book. I understood the complicated love triangle and how it was really one-sided and I felt love for Jamie as if he was actually a part of my family. It was brilliant how Meyer expressed such compelling feelings and broken hearted story that revolved around Wanderer (Wanda.)

As I couldn't put the book down for longer than 30 minutes I sat in my room at 4:00am and read the ending with tears strolling down my face. I had never been so emotional from a book in all my life. I reread it every now and again thinking that I wont be as overwhelmed by the book as I was from first reading it but yet it still surprises me in emotional ways.

I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

(sorry for the long review)

I understand that feeling except im only 13 and i have chores and stuff around my house i havetime to read a book or two, but when i read i get lost in the book and its hard to get back out of it, like your in this world and then the next day you wake up and its like a movie playing over an you go up to someone and say "Was there a movie called The Host or is it just me?" i would find that funny cuz i asked my aunt that question... what im saying is books take you to a world you wouldnt want to leave.

Sry that wuz long to lol guess i dont really have the hang of this thing yet..

I totally get you, that's what I love about books, because in movies you see what the characters look like and you get the story from a narritors point of view however in a book you can see into the mind of the characters and pull up what the characters look like in your own head (maybe like someone you know) and sometimes you relate yourself to the character and link your thoughts with the thoughts of the character. It's amazing!!

The Host...

I am so so sorry that I found it hard to concentrate and read it at once this book...

but...God was I wrong...

I realized that I loved it ALL OF IT until I finished it...

Wanda...wanderer...any other name would have done it...but her character...how Stephenie just knew how she would talk and react and love and feel. at the end I couldn't get enough of it...and it showed all the truth of our world in real life...I saw completely reflected Earth as it is...in just that tinny little cave with so few people...

PERFECT

I lived every letter of this book...drew in shacky breaths when Wanda/Mel were doing the same...curl into a ball when they grireved, smiled when Ian smiled, recoil when Kyle past around the corner of somewhere near Wanda...laugh when Jamie wanted to be old enough to be counted as a grouwn up...

and DISBELIEF passed all over me at both last chapters...

I was so sure of the fate Wanda had chosen...that it blow my breath completely away...and I only found it again(my breath that is...) until I finished the whole book...

The Host is the one of the best books I have ever read. i think meyer did good and actually has a reputation instead being known as the person who wrote the twilight series. Cause, honestly no one i know likes that book series any more.

A lot of people I've talked to hated this book but I really enjoyed it. I found it to be an easy and fast read. I loved the dynamic of the two main characters fighting over one body. And while the plot line seems a little farfetched the story felt convincing and believable. I'm hoping she decides to write a sequel.

This was good reading but a little too contrived in certain parts. I have not read the Twilight books and don't really intend to because I don't care for the whole "vampire" story line.

After all the mewing and giggling about Stephanie Meyers as an incarnate Emily Dickinson, or a tame Anne Rice on anti-depressants, I decided to give her a try to see what all the fuss is about. While perusing her literary dross at the bookstore, I finally settled upon “The Host” and for the single reason that the synopsis on the inner book jacket proclaimed, “This is Stephanie Myers’ first book for adults”..... which fully confirmed my suspicions about her remaining works. After finish... more

I love this book. It's so much better then the "Twilight" Books.

It made me wonder and ask my selfwhat makes a Soul? What makes us Human? There were so many Characters in the Book, and they all made me feel for them in one way or another.

I will read it again. And that's the highest praise I can give it.
