I fell in love with this book from the opening drawing of the moon casting a glow over 1930s Paris. Part picture book, part novel, it is such a unique storytelling experience. It is rendered entirely in black and white - but there's a world of colour to be found in the characters and the unfolding mystery. I read loads of kids books to vet them for my own children first - but this one is definitely a favorite of mine, as well as theirs!

I’m a Brian Selznick fan. After reading Wonderstruck, I had to read the Invention of Hugo Cabret. Only Brian Selznick can write about automaton, an orphan boy, a retired movie maker and a train station in Paris and create a wonderful story.

Through images and words, the story of Hugo is really the story of Georges Méliès, a filmmaker and how he is found by a little orphaned boy, living in the train station in Paris and the automaton that brings them together. Well researched and stitched together, this book has a bit of something for everyone.

Read this book with your child and then watch the wonderful movie adaptation.

I started reading and admiring The Invention of Hugo Cabret. What an unbelievable book! It is a combination of spectacular imagery combined with editorial. It is one of those books you keep on your bookshelf as a collectors item. Has anyone read it?

We think the pictures add so much to the story! Even though it's a bit of a cliche, sometimes a picture really does speak a thousand words...
