Description

On September 18, 2007 computer science professor Randy Pausch stepped in front of an audience of 400 people at Carnegie Mellon University to deliver his last lecture. At 46, Randy had been told the month before that he had pancreatic cancer and had only a few months to live. Randy's lecture that day was called 'Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams'. It was modelled on a series of lectures where top academics are asked to think deeply about what matters to them, and then give a hypothetical 'final talk', i.e., "what wisdom would you try to impart to the world if you knew it was your last chance?" His talk lovingly, humorously and defiantly revealed the most important things Randy had learnt throughout his life, the wisdom that he had gathered and the message he wanted to leave his children. During the lecture, Pausch was upbeat, alternating between wisecracks, offering inspirational life lessons, and performing push-ups on stage.

Most astoudning in every way. I agree that this book will truly make you re-think a lot of things happening in your daily life and also about your future. I watched the actual lecture he gave online before buying the book. I must admit that both are gut-wrenching and heart-warming in every single way. If anyone does not find themselves realistically thinking about changing something in their lives after reading this, then maybe they never got the whole meaning of life to begin with.

Randy Pausch has made me think. We chose this as our current library Book Club book. Read this and you, too, with rethink a number of avenues you are walking in life.

I just found the book uninteresting. If I knew that I was going to die soon... I would want to spend my time somewhere nice, tropical perhaps, with my close family and friends. I don't get this guy. Why the need for a seminar when he is on his last legs? He seemed to be a little too self-proclaimed for me.
