Description

March 1928. Freddie is on holiday in south west France. When his car crashes, he stumbles down from the mountains to a hotel in the nearest village. There he meets a beautiful young woman called Marie. As the storm rages outside, she explains how war destroyed her home and her family. Marie's story touches Freddie, but when he wakes the next morning, she has gone. Waiting for his car to be mended, he decides to explore the mountains where Marie's family took refuge. But buried in the cave he finds a secret older and more shocking than anything he could have imagined...By turns thrilling, poignant and haunting, this is a story of two lives touched by war and transformed by courage.

Hey, I've just finished The Winter Ghost by Kate Mosse and LOVED it. It's the first of her books that I've red and I just couldn't put it down. Anyone els like it? I'm a huge book fan but I'm the only one in my family and friends so have no-one to talk books to. I like reading anything, except autobiography s but I've recently finished Clare Baldings' and loved it but that's more because she in an animal lover like me :-)

Hi RoisinFinch

Kate Mosse is wonderful and if you liked this one you will enjoy all of her previous ones too, start with Labyrinth. If you like historical fiction there is a lot of great books to choose from: If you like something more literary I would suggest Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller ( she won the Orange prize for this title) or Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel who won two Booker awards for her books. If you don't mind big size and enjoy sagas type of books you should check Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, and if you are looking for something more in the tradition of historical, popular fiction with fantastic story lines you should try Shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon or any of Kate Morton or Philippa Gregory books. Don't forget to check our category pages too and you will find one dedicated to historical fiction.

Happy Reading!

Thank you for the book suggestions, I've read Kate Mortons' books and also loved them. One I've finished this book I will definitely look into the others.
