From the South comes this compelling story of a black family of sharecroppers and their dog, Sounder. When the family goes hungry, the father steals a ham and is later sent to jail. Not knowing where his father has been imprisoned, the oldest son begins a frantic search that lasts for years. To compound the family crisis, Sounder is wounded by a sheriff.
