Description

On the day after Halloween, in the year 1327, four children slip away from the cathedral city of Kingsbridge. They are a thief, a bully, a boy genius and a girl who wants to be a doctor. In the forest they see two men killed. As adults, their lives will be braided together by ambition, love, greed and revenge. They will see prosperity and famine, plague and war. One boy will travel the world but come home in the end; the other will be a powerful, corrupt nobleman. One girl will defy the might of the medieval church; the other will pursue an impossible love. And always they will live under the long shadow of the unexplained killing they witnessed on that fateful childhood day. Ken Follett's masterful epic "The Pillars of the Earth" enchanted millions of readers with its compelling drama of war, passion and family conflict set around the building of a cathedral. Now "World Without End" takes readers back to medieval Kingsbridge two centuries later, as the men, women and children of the city once again grapple with the devastating sweep of historical change.
'Follett's storytelling skills keep you compulsively turning the pages to the satisfactory ending of good triumphant over evil' - "Daily Mail".

I read this book right after finishing Pillars of the Earth and was disappointed for the 1st 1/3 of the book. In fact started to wonder if it should have been called "Book Without End" However by the end I was quite swept away by it.

A very enthralling read with tremendous insights. I felt as though i was actually there all thos years ago! I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read Pillars of the earth. This book both educated and entertained.

I also read this book after The Pillars of the Earth and it did not disappoint me.

Its such a large book though that you do have to keep the concentration going and have enough time to read it without forgetting the plot.

I really loved it and felt it educated as much as entertained. I never thought I would be so interested in building!

Picked this up as soon as I finished Pillars of the Earth. This was written just as well, if not better, than the first, and I found myself engrossed from start to end. My only complaint is Mr. Follet's overindulgence in sex scenes. Where the scenes were balanced and part of character building in Pillars of the Earth, here many encounters seemed pointless and part of someone's fantasy. Aside that, loved this book! Great characters, strong story line, and believable circumstances that spanned a lifetime.

Love, love, love this book and all his book........was terribly sad when it finished. I felt I'd lost a good friend. A friend of mine has read it twice she enjoyed it so much!

This book creates a world within which one can escape into; you come to care about the characters, you want to know more and more about them, the book becomes 'unputdownable.' ;-) great read.
